WaNPRC Director Dr Deb Fuller announced in July an expansion of the Veterinary Medicine & Science Convergence Award, to include a focus on aligning with New Approach Methodologies (NAMs). The award reflects WaNPRC’s commitment to both scientific innovation and the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction and Refinement).
The purpose of this award is three-fold:
- Explore refinements in NHP veterinary care and research – this is the original call that requires a collaboration between a vet and PI with the vet serving as PI.
- Develop technologies or New Approach Methodologies (or NAMs) that can replace or reduce NHPs needed for research or that complement and enhance what we can learn through in vivo studies in NHPs – this call is aimed at PIs within WaNPRC and throughout UW and does not require a collaboration with a vet
- Support research projects proposed by our veterinary residents aimed at either replacement, reduction or refinement – this call is restricted to just our vet residents
“These three calls have one thing in common: If successful they will significantly improve animal care at WaNPRC and result in the development of novel procedures or technologies that improve our research mission and bolster WaNPRC’s reputation as a leader in public health protection,” Dr Fuller said in announcing the expanded funding opportunity.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for researchers in all our cores to engage in leading-edge projects that are aligned with emerging national priorities and have the dual benefit of scientific innovation while positioning the Center’s visibility and competitiveness in the federal research landscape,” she said.
WaNPRC anticipates funding up to four awards per year for the Vet/PI or NAM award, and one for the Director’s award, at a maximum of $50,000 per award. Applications for these awards will be ongoing. Applications will be reviewed by a committee on an ongoing basis.
Once more, here is the form for applications. You’ll find a white paper template below.
